Attending their very first festival were my kids and our dog. I was a little nervous, not sure how they would cope with the crowds, the loud music, or the busy atmosphere. We had done a lot of research to find a dog-friendly festival, good for kids, and settled on attending Camper Jam.
Thankfully, we came prepared. Along with plenty of snacks and everything we would need for the day, we packed our festival essentials:
- Our trusty festival trolley, perfect for carrying everything we needed
- Our cosy hygge blanket, ready for relaxing between activities and enjoying the music
Stepping into the main festival area was a little overwhelming at first. The music was loud, the crowds were bustling, and there was so much to take in. The kids put on their ear defenders, which made a huge difference, and before long we were all relaxing into the festival atmosphere, that hygge feeling finding us even in the middle of a crowd.
It was a good reminder of how spending time in green space can genuinely benefit your mental health, even somewhere as busy as a festival.
We spent the first part of the day exploring the smaller attractions and family-friendly activities, including:
- Watching the amazing Bubble Man at work
- Getting creative in the crafting tent
- Adding a touch of festival sparkle with face glitter and colourful hair braids
As the afternoon rolled on, we found the perfect spot towards the back of the main stage to enjoy the live music. We spread out our cosy blanket as a picnic blanket, while the dog happily stretched out beside us, content to watch the festival-goers wander past. Moments like this are exactly why camping and getting outdoors is so good for family relationships.
Later that evening, we headed back to our campervan for a quieter end to the day. We had transformed our pitch into a cosy little retreat with:
- Twinkling fairy lights
- A small tabletop fire pit
- Relaxing music playing
Wrapped up in our cosy blankets, we sat together, chatting and unwinding after a brilliant day. It was the perfect way to end the first day of our very first family festival experience, and we were looking forward to what the next day would bring.
