Hygge Makers Club

Slow making for busy women, 15 minutes at a time.

There’s something calming about making with your hands. The click of needles, the hum of a sewing machine, a cup of tea going cold beside you because you’re lost in it.

That’s a hygge moment. And you don’t need a whole afternoon for it. Fifteen minutes is enough.

Choose Your Make

A Note From Collette

I’m a qualified fashion lecturer with 30 years of dressmaking behind me. But the best things I know, I learned at Nanna Betty’s kitchen table.

Where It All Started: Nanna Betty

My Nanna Betty was born in Salford in the 1920s, into a world that still felt very Victorian: cobbled streets, smoggy skies and a tiled pub on every corner.

She was part of the make, do and mend generation. She worked as a machinist at the Macintosh factory, and at home she made her own dresses, wearing them proudly to the local dance. She never threw anything away. Holes were darned, trousers were patched, and clothes beyond repair became rag rugs.

When I was a little girl, she taught me to sew. We’d spend cosy Sunday afternoons together, sewing and chatting, while she told me stories about growing up in old Salford.

Because of her, I became a fashion teacher and designer. Now I want to share that same feeling with you: not perfect stitches, just the joy of slowing down and making something with love.

What Is a Hygge Make?

A hygge make isn’t about getting it right. It’s about the time you give yourself while you make it.

It might be a few rows of knitting, sewing on a pocket, or mending a favourite jumper. Something small and cosy, done slowly, just for you.
