Add a Cushion That Is Just for Comfort: The 15-Minute Hygge Moment

Do you have cushions you’re not actually allowed to lean on?

So many cushions are just for show. Perfectly plumped, carefully arranged, and moved out of the way the moment we sit down.

This week, why not take 15 minutes for a little hygge moment and add a cushion that is just for comfort? The squishy one. The soft one. The one you can hug.

Comfort first, looks second.

Make it cosy

Your comfort cushion might be:

  • A big, soft floor cushion
  • A knitted or chunky-textured one you love to touch
  • An old favourite pillow in a pretty cover
  • A small one, just right for the small of your back

You don’t need to buy one. Have a look around the house first. There is often a forgotten favourite in a cupboard.

Your 15 minutes of comfort

  • Find your cushion. Choose the softest, squishiest one in the house.
  • Give it a home. Your favourite chair, a corner of the sofa, or the floor by the window.
  • Make a warm drink. And bring a blanket while you’re at it.
  • Sink in. Lean back, tuck it behind you or hug it close.
  • Stay put. Let yourself enjoy 15 minutes of pure comfort.

Slow it right down

You might feel the urge to straighten it or put it back. That is completely normal. Leave it squashed. That is what it is for.

As you settle, try to notice:

  • The softness against your back or in your arms
  • How your body feels supported
  • The texture of the fabric under your fingers
  • How much easier it is to relax

Finish gently

When your 15 minutes are up, leave your cushion right where it is, ready for next time.

You could also:

  • Put a comfort cushion in every room you sit in
  • Swap stiff cushions for softer ones this season
  • Pair it with a favourite blanket for the full cosy nest
  • Make it your little evening ritual

Your 15-minute challenge

Today, give yourself 15 minutes.

Find the softest cushion. Give it a home. Make a warm drink.

Then sink in and let yourself be comfortable.

It does not have to match. It does not have to look perfect.

It just has to feel good.

Comfort is always in style.
