Could you name three cosy moments from the last few weeks without stopping to think?
Most months rush past in a blur of school runs, work, shopping lists and tired evenings. By the end, it can feel as if nothing much happened at all. But the lovely little moments were there. We just did not stop to catch them.
This week, why not take 15 minutes for a little hygge moment and write down what made this month feel hygge? A short list on paper turns a busy month into something you can look back on fondly.
A shopping list pad works fine.
Make it cosy
Before you start, find a quiet corner and gather:
- A notebook or a few loose sheets of paper
- A pen you actually enjoy writing with
- Your calendar or phone photos, for jogging your memory
- A soft lamp and a blanket over your knees
- A cup of tea or hot chocolate within reach
Your 15 minutes of looking back
- Write the month. Put the name of the month at the top of the page.
- Scroll gently back. Flick through your photos or diary, week by week.
- Jot the small things. A walk, a meal, a laugh, a quiet bath, a good chat.
- Add a feeling. Next to each one, write a word for how it felt.
- Circle your favourite. Pick the one moment you would happily live again.
Slow it right down
There is no right answer here and nothing to judge. A hard month can still hold a few soft moments, and those are often the ones worth remembering most.
As you write, try to notice:
- Which moments come back to you first
- How many of them cost nothing at all
- The people who keep turning up on your list
- The little smile that creeps in as you remember
Finish gently
Read your list back once, slowly, then tuck it somewhere safe. It is a small record of a month that was better than it felt at the time. If you would like a gentle way to keep going, a regular 15-minute pause is a lovely habit to pair it with.
You could also:
- Keep one notebook just for these monthly lists
- Ask your family for their favourite moment too
- Pick one thing from the list to do again next month
- Read the whole year back on a cosy evening in December
Your 15-minute challenge
This weekend, give yourself 15 minutes.
Make a warm drink. Open a notebook. Look back over the month.
Then write down every small moment that made it feel a little bit hygge.
It does not have to be a long list. It does not have to be beautifully written.
It just has to be yours.
The cosy moments count, so count them.
