How long do you stay in your day clothes after you get home?

Lots of us walk through the door and carry straight on. Cooking, tidying, answering messages, still in the clothes we wore all day.

This week, why not take 15 minutes for a little hygge moment and change into your comfiest clothes as soon as you get home? It is a simple way to tell yourself the day is done.

Your oldest, softest jumper is perfect.

Make it cosy

Before you get home, have things ready:

  • Your softest joggers, leggings or loungewear
  • A big jumper or cardigan
  • Fluffy socks or slippers
  • A hair band to let your hair down
  • The kettle ready to switch on

Your 15 minutes of getting comfy

  • Come in and pause. Put your bag down and take one slow breath.
  • Head straight upstairs. Before you start anything else.
  • Change slowly. Swap your day clothes for something soft and warm.
  • Wash your face or hands. Wash the day away with warm water.
  • Make a warm drink. Then sit down for a few minutes before you carry on.

Slow it right down

It might feel like a waste of time when there is tea to make and jobs to do. Those few minutes are what help you switch off.

As you change, try to notice:

  • The soft fabric against your skin
  • How your body loosens up
  • The feeling of slippers on tired feet
  • How your mood shifts from busy to calm

Finish gently

Once you are changed, sit for a moment with your drink before you start the evening.

You could also:

  • Keep a comfy outfit folded and ready by the bed
  • Light a candle as part of your coming home routine
  • Put on a favourite playlist while you change
  • Make it a ritual for the whole family

Your 15-minute challenge

Tonight, give yourself 15 minutes.

Come home. Get changed straight away. Pull on your softest things.

Then sit down with a warm drink before you do anything else.

It does not have to be new loungewear. It does not have to match.

It just has to be comfy.

Home is where the comfy clothes are.
